Bobby Atkins

(banjo - 1954, 1958, 6/1961-11/1961)

Born: 5/22/1933

As a Blue Grass Boy: Atkins played three separate stints with Bill Monroe, the first lasting only a few days due to his extreme homesickness. He played longer stints in 1958 and 1961, but never recorded as a Blue Grass Boy.

Before and After: Atkins formed the Appalachian Music Makers in 1962, and in 1970 changed the band's name to Bobby Atkins and the Countrymen. He continues to perform and record with the Countrymen, which he now co-leads with his son Mark.
