Born: 2/22/1926 Died: 10/4/2013 As a Blue Grass Boy: Gene Christian replaced Benny Martin around 1949 and played with Bill for a year or so, including a stint on bass when Chubby Wise rejoined the band for a short time. Before and After: Christian toured with Flatt and Scruggs for a time in 1954. In 1955 he formed the Hillbilly Pals, a group that later included Rual Yabrough. With a Florida based group, the Country Pals, he appeard on the Arthur Godfrey TV show in 1956. From 1962 to 1985 he led his own band, Gene Christian and the Nashville Gents and Gals.
