James Monroe

As a Blue Grass Boy: James Monroe, Bill Monroe's only son, began playing bass regularly with the band late in 1964. He changed to guitar in 1969 when Roland White left.

Before and After: James stopped touring with the Blue Grass Boys in 1971 in order to form his own band, the Midnight Ramblers. He continued to appear on his father's recording sessions, however, including two albums that were released under both their names: "Father and Son" and "Together Again". Now semi-retired, he continues to perform occasionally with the Midnight Ramblers.
