As a Blue Grass Boy: After replacing Art Wooten in the summer of 1940, Tommy Magness fiddled on the very first Blue Grass Boys recording session that October. He was featured on the fiddle tune "Katy Hill". Monroe once said of him, "He had that fine old-time touch, rich and pure, but he was able to put a touch of blues to it."

Recording Sessions: 10/7/1940

Before and After: In the late 30s, Tommy Magness was a member of Roy Hall's Blue Ridge Entertainers, a group to which he returned for a short time after leaving Monroe. Magness spent several years with Roy Acuff in the late 40s, then formed a group called the Tennessee Buddies which featured Don Reno and Red Smiley.
