As a Blue Grass Boy: Amos Garren was the Blue Grass Boys' first bass player, replacing jug player Tommy Millard shortly after the band moved to Greenville, South Carolina in the spring of 39. He played with the band on its Opry debut but left before the first recording session. The only available recording of his playing is a live version of "Muleskinner Blues", recorded on the Grand Ole Opry in November 1939, available on the "Music of Bill Monroe" boxed set.
